Sitting around [OPEN]

[Jinx Williams]

Jinx sat against a tapestry, her dark hair highlighted by the fading sun. She had a book on her lap, but she had failed to read past the first word so far. Her mind raced as she thought about her old friends, her new friends, her sister, her aunts, her parents. Her parents. Jinx turned her head away from the light sadly, trying to block out the life she couldn't remember. Think about something happy, something fun. Like music, or history, or Casey. Yeah, Casey, think about what to do to keep her from shredding your clothes, Jinx mentally advised herself.

[Brandi Monsoon]

Brandi had just got into the school from being out on the pitch. She was still wearing her Quidditch robes, but her broom had been locked away already. Turning the corner a grin lit up her face. "Jinx!" She was so excited to see her best friend. Being on tour all summer had restricted Brandi to not seeing too many of her friends, Jinx being on of them.

Jinx looked up in alarm at the sound of a her name. "Brandi? Long time no see, too busy for us simple folk?"She laughed, glad of a distraction. "I take it you just had Quidditch? If I'd known I'd have dropped by and said hey." Jinx closed the book and stood up, facing her old friend properly. "Alright then, spill everything you have been up to lately. It has been way too long since we caught up," she announced.

[Brandi Monsoon]

"Yeah, was just practicing. You should have come down and played." Brandi grinned, "It would have been fun." She englufed Jinx in a hug once the girl had stood up. "Summer was pretty busy, I had a tour in America. Loads of fun, next time you should come with me."

Brandi sat down, "You need to spill too, it's been far too long. As for me, well it's been mainly just singing all summer, and spending the last weeks of summer in Diagonalley. I met this cutie there, cept he's not interested in anyone, guys or girls." Brandi laughed, "He's a good friend now."

[Jinx Williams]

"Back up their Brands. I spent the Summer babysitting and busking. You spent it in America? Whether I am invited or not, I will be going with you next time. Even if I have to slip into your hand luggage. I am glad you have made a new friend." She sat back down beside Brandi and shrugged.

"Like I said, summer for me has been busking, babysitting and dancing. I was supposed to go to France, but once you've seen one part of it, you've seen it all. Glad to be back? I'll bet you miss playing your normal instruments now huh? I know I do."

"Don't worry about squishing yourself into my luggage, I'll get you a seat." Brandi laughed, "As for my friend, you should meet him. His name's Joey Punter. Apparently he's a musician in the wizarding world. Ever heard of him? cause I hadn't."

Brandi glanced over at her friend, briefly wondering is Jinx was upset with her about something. But Jinx would tell her, Brandi thought, Jinx always did. "Yeah, I am definately going to miss the tour in a way. I brought my guitar along, acoustic, since electricity is crap out here." She wrinkled her nose, it sucked being in the wizarding world when you depended so much on muggle technology.

"Joey Punter?I think I've heard of him, but I've never heard him play." Jinx grinned, before adding,"Yeah, I bought my panpipes and tried to sneak my drums, but my sister caught me and told my family, so that kinda went out the window," Jinx laughed. "Sometimes being a witch is such a pain, no electricity and being away from your family most of the time." She could sense Brandi was trying to tell if she was upset, and she supressed a laugh. Typical Brandi, always knowing how Jinx was feeling.

"I had another dream about mom last night. I don't know if it was a memory, or just my mind trying to fill in the gaps again." Jinx said quietly, pulling her knees up under her. Brandi was one of the few people who knew about Jinx's past.

Brandi grinned, "It's too bad you didn't bring them, we could have started up some tunes in the middle of class or something." She nodded, "It's a pain in the ass, bigtime."

She listened carefully as Jinx drew into herself. "Maybe it's a bit of both," Brandi asked softly, turning so she was listening to Jinx fully. "What happened?" She was always there for her best friend, and she cared a lot for Jinx.

"We were in the house. She was playing piano and we were singing together. She looked really happy. But then.... there was this scream and everything got all jumbled, you know? I mean, there were people running, and someone crying and all these images of fires and bookcases and bricks kept flashing in my mind. I felt something burn on my hand, and I woke up." Jinx held up the back of her hand, revealing a fresh burn on the back of her hand. "They're getting worse. This is the second time a dream has physically hurt me." Her fingers strayed to the panpipes in her bag, tracing the patterns anxiously.

Brandi listened carefully, her eyes watching Jinx's face as she described it.

Her gaze flinted down to the burn on her hand, and Brandi gasped. "Jinx. This isn't good." Brandi knew a little about dreams herself. "When it becomes powerful enough to hurt you beyound your mental state, you need to seek help. Have you tried drawing your memories out, into one of those basin things? It helped me to begin with." Brandi had never kept it a secret from her friend that she occasionally dreamed things that would happen a few days later. If the dream was vivid enough that she could change the outcome, Brandi's body automatically apparated her there. Which personally, Brandi found annoying to the extreme, because that was the only time she could apparate proberly.

Jinx sensed her friend's alarm, and without thinking she sent a calming mist into Brandi's mind, but she immediately felt a wave of nausea coursing over her from using her powers. "That is the problem Brandi. I can't get help. Pensieves don't tend to work for me, I don't think I can use them to sort this out. I don't know what to do anymore." She raised her head momentarily before dropping it into her hands. She admired Brandi, the way she dealt with things, with her own dreams. She felt bad for adding her own problems on top.

Brandi felt suddenly calm and she frowned, "Jinx!" She said sharply, and then felt bad as her friend shuddered. Placing a hand on Jinx's shoulder, she steadied her, "I'm here for you, just because I'm concerned doesn't mean I need to relax. I want to help you figure this out." She made Jinx look her in the eyes, "You and your dreams are no burden to me. They never are. Sometimes they help me take my mind off my own. Believe me, my dreams are probably easier to deal with then yours. Plus I'm used to it. Showing up at random locations, trying to understand why I'm there. It's not going to kill me." Brandi told her, trying to help Jinx understand.

"Sorry," Jinx said, "I know you don't like me doing that." She thought through what Brandi was saying and froze in alarm. "My dreams aren't going to kill me either, right? Brandi, how can a dream kill you? I know that I get hurt, but that does not mean....Okay, now I am worried." She looked back at the burn on her hand, trying to ignore the cuts on her shoulder from the previous dream. Jinx smiled sadly and added, "Actually Brandi, what if you end up being taken to the middle of an active volcana that was erupting? Surely then, your dream would have killed you."

Brandi blinked. "Jinx... I think you need to be calming down now. It's some part of your own mind that is causing the dreams, or picking them up; but since they are about your mom, I would say it's your own mind." Brandi informed her. "As for the erupting volcano.... Do give me a little credit; I can resist the pull, at least long enough to figure my landing destination." She said, smiling at her friend.

She could see however jinx was really bothered by the dying in a dream, so Brandi said brightly, "Did you know, that if you die in a dream, it means good luck?"

"Well that's comforting," Jinx laughed, nudging Brandi with her elbow. "So I die in my dream, and I have good luck? Unless I happen to die both in and out of my dream, idiot," she said fondly. "Alright, I think it is time I got over being depressed and did something fun. Any ideas?"
